Hyper V 2012: The virtual desktop is not Sysprep generalized

Environment – Windows Hyper V 2012 with base image template as Windows 7.
In the process of creating/deploying virtual machine from a template, you may come across the below error when you select the template in the Virtual Desktop Template wizard screen.
“The virtual desktop is not Sysprep generalized”
This issue occurs when the base image (template) was not sysprep’ed before shutdown or turning into a template.
Power On the base image VM, login with administrative credential, follow below steps to run sysprep:
Go to Start > Run > type Powershell > Hit Enter
On the powershell command prompt, cd (change directory) to the sysprep directory (C:\windows\System32\sysprep)
Type .\sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown and hit enter
PS C:\> cd windows
PS C:\windows> cd .\System32
PS C:\windows\System32> cd sysprep
PS C:\windows\System32\sysprep> .\sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown
“Sysprep is working…” window pops up and processing takes place for 3-4 minutes approx. and the VM automatically shutdown.
Now, at this point you are ready to deploy VMs from the template!

Tried and tried to somehow organize things and after installing integration tools and sysprepd, hyper-v2012 says that my integration tools are not appropriate. It seems that after sysprepd, integration tools are somehow “downgraded” and I am totally frustrated. Hope that win 8.1 will die.
